Šandor Dembitz

Šandor Dembitz is a retired associate professor. Before the retirement, he was affiliated to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (UNIZG-FER). His main research interest is natural language processing. He still maintains the Croatian n-gram system, a big-data infrastructure needed for high-quality speech synthesis and other sophisticated speech technology tasks. Without this system it would be almost impossible to determine whether an occurrence of „žena“ in a text should be pronounced as žèna, or as žénā, for example.
